4 days and 3 nights Koshi Tappu Wildlife
Reserve (KOSHI4-N):
Koshi Tappu wildlife Reserve is situated in the subtropical inner
Tarai lowland in the east part of Nepal. The reserve covers about
175 sq. km and spreads over Saptari and Sunsari districts on
the flood plains of Sapt-Koshi River. It has been recognizing
as a wetland site from 1987 was established to protect the rare
wild water buffaloes. The reserve composed of tall grassland,
wetland, and small patches of dense forest.
Koshi Tappu is the best place for birds watching site in Nepal,
where more than 440 species of birds are recorded including 20
duck species, 30 shore birds, 114 water birds and also provides
good home of water buffalo (Arna), Deer, Blue bull, Gharial Crocodile,
and 80 species of fish.
A wide variety of birds are found in this reserve. The beautiful
birds are Swamp Francolin, Black-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant,
Comb Duck, Falcated Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Cotton Pigmy Goose,
Baer's Pochard, Bailon's Crake, Ruddy Crake, Greater Painted
Snipe, Pheasant-tailed jacana, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Indian
Courser, Black-bellied Tern, Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle,
Lesser Kestrel, Bristle Grassbird, Striated Grassbird etc.
The majority of Tharu ethnic peoples live in this region. They
are considered Mongoloid. They speak their own language. They
have practice in Buddhism and Animism. Their main occupation
is farming, most of Tharu settlement is on the bank of river.
Tharus are rich in cultural. They have their own special costumes,
dresses, ornaments etc. They worship various gods and goddesses,
they have their own priest. According to the month and season,
they perform different kinds of folk songs and folk dances. Among
them Barkha Dance, Sakhya, Stick dance are the major folk dances
of Tharus. |

Day 1.
00: Departure form Kathamndu to Biratnagar by plane, 45 minutes,
some one will wait at the airport and drive private car to Kusaha,
1h30.
00: Short visit around Tharu village.
00: Dinner.
Day 2.
00: Early
morning short nature walks with naturalists.
00: Breakfast.
00: Full days Sapta Koshi River rafting with naturalists, discover
water birds, water buffaloes etc
00: Pack lunch in the bank of river.
00: Drive to the Koshi Barrage to discover different species
of fish, Crocodile etc.
00: Possible to have Tharu cultural dance in you camp.
00: Dinner.
Day 3.
00: Early
morning short nature walks with naturalists.
00: Breakfast.
00: Full day walking along the Koshir River; discover birding
all along the dam of the Koshi.
00: Pack lunch in the bank of river.
00: Discover different species of birds from Pink Tower.
00: Dinner.
Day 4.
00: Breakfast.
00: Departure to Biratnagar airport by private car. |
